2nd Round For Lakers

Kobe Bryant of LakersLos Angeles Lakers who were bounced in the 1st round for 3 straight years, finally advance to the 2nd round this year after a 4-0 sweep of the Denver Nuggets today.
HURRAY..
Thanks to the heroic performance by Kobe Bryant late in the game that sent the Nuggets home.
Nuggets got Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson SO WHAT?

Kevin Garnett of Celtics
And what's disappointing
Boston Celtics, who won a NBA-leading 66 games in the regular season and also the favorite team for NBA Title this year, are supposed to be resting by now and getting ready for the 2nd round of playoffs. BUT WHAT HAPPENED? Celtics got another upset by the young and inexperienced Atlanta Hawks that only won 37 games out of 82 games during the regular season! The series are now tied at 2-2. What the Heck CELTICS? You have 3 of the best NBA players in your team dude.
Don't look down on your opponent.
Disappointing.

2nd Project

Here's my 2nd project

Building a small botanical station at Kings Park with a toilet, a bedroom for 1 or 2 person, a kitchen/dining area and a study area. The building has to be sustainable-no electricity and no water- and at the same time has to work during summer/winter.

1. Sunlight and wind directions were experimented in this project.
2. The surrounding trees and sun angles were examined carefully to create shadow during summer
to minimize the heating of the house and allow sunlight during winter to maximize
the
heating of the house.

3. The walls and windows were located according to the wind received during winter and summer
to create and maximize air ventilation in the interior space.

4. The structure is heavily designed with timber and glass as they are cheaper and more
sustainable compare to concrete.
5. Plants on the roof top to cool of the roof as plants are 5-6 degrees below surrounding temperature.
Hot air rises, cools down by the roof and descends as cooler air.
This creates air
ventilation.

I haven't got pictures of my drawings. I'll post them up soon.
I'll 1st post my process of model making.

1. Floor and Roof structure
2. Walls and window frames
3. Window system that deflects high summer sun but allows penetration of low winter sun

4. Plants on the roof
5. Final model (South-west elevation)

Highlight of the Week

It was Yuri's birthday last night

Happy 19th Birthday Yuri

She invited all of us archi chumzz to her party at Onyx Bar near city. The bar was not bad. At least something new and not METRO METRO METRO all the time. I didn't drink much though. I only had a Corona and B52. It wasn't the usual me i know. Cause I'm seriously broke now.
And Alcohol is not good for health..

YEA RIGHT!!

so here's a few photos of us last night

I was just playing with the sushi, not serving!

The Guys and I (Ivan, Simon, Gerald, Alan and Jasper)

Carol and I again :)

Hours later, ByeBye Alan !!

Overall, the party was okay except we didn't know all of Yuri's friends.

So that was the highlight of my 1 week break. I've done nothing productive except sleeping, eating, watching movies and shopping with Carol. The end of my break means the beginning of 2nd half of semester. Things gonna be more tough so there will be another 6-7 sleepless weeks.
After this 6-7 weeks, hopefully i can see my buddies back in KL and Miri.

2nd Year of Architecture

Currently, I'm having a much-needed 1 week mid-term break.
2nd year is tougher than 1st year i must say. I have more sleepless nights than I did last year. It's only 1st half of the semester. 1st HALF OF SEMESTER and they were only minor projects -_-
I have more major projects after the break.

By the way, I would like to show you guys my 1st and 2nd studio projects.

Project 1

In architecture, the simplest project is actually the hardest.
The project was about reusing a site where there was a house sitting on it decades ago. What's left now is only the base of the house.
The project was also about 90% site and 10% architecture which means the existing base should be left untouched and how architecture and the site could be integrated to enhance 'connected-ness' between people and landscape (this was the hardest part).
What added to the difficulties of this project were the considerations of the history context of the site, the geometry of the landscape and the sunlight and wind direction. All these elements should be combined and celebrated in the design.
Honestly, I didn't do quite well in it. What was missing is the connection between the design and the site.
I got only 10/15 and im not satisfy with it.

Perspective drawings of the site

Plan of the site that shows the existing base

Plan of my design

Sections of the site

One of the huge rocks found at the site

Timber Bridge I designed to connect 2 areas separated by the river

Concrete blocks and steels of old building (to bring back the history of the site)

My simple and small timber shelter

My sitting platforms on the huge rocks

Thats it for my 1st small studio project.
Believe it or not, they were all hand-drawn by myself...

Believe it.

I haven't sorted out the pictures for my 2nd project. So stay tune for the upcoming post.

Have a nice day everyone.
